Generally, internships are designed by the employer to meet the organizational needs
of the organization while at the same time providing for the needs of the intern.
Interns make a short-term commitment to work for an employer in order to achieve
learning goals and gain valuable experience and exposure to their field of interest.
The employer, in turn, commits to providing the intern with a learning experience,
specific work assignments, and training.
Employers who host interns overwhelmingly report positive experiences for their
organizations. As a result, interns often become full-time employees with far lower
turnover rates and better promotion potential than average entry-level professionals.
The knowledge and skills gained by interns during their internship enable them to
begin employment at a higher level of responsibility than those without experience.
Interns are an effective way to get special projects or assignments done. They bring
in fresh perspectives, ideas, and enthusiasm from which the employers can gain new
energy and skills. This also means that an internship provides on the one hand the
opportunity for permanent staff to gain supervisory experience and on the other
hand to free up capacities.
One has to keep in mind that helping interns progress in their personal and career
development leads also to personal satisfaction. Supporting interns is a way to
contribute to one's social responsibility leading to increased name recognition
of your company.
